The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth

The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth will be coming to Xbox One, Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS along with the platforms the game also exists on: PC, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita. The expansion of the indie hit adds a wealth of new content including a new element called a “Friend Ball,” which looks unshockingly familiar.

Designer Edmund McMillen explains the content in a new blog post, confirming that it is indeed real after the previous wave of announcements came out on April Fools Day. The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth will have:

  • 100+ new items
  • a new playable character (Lilith)
  • a whole new alt path and game ending
  • a whole new game mode that will greatly expand the game by 100+ more hours
  • new alt floors
  • tons new enemies and bosses
  • a lot of new super secrets
  • 10 new challenges
  • a butt ton of new achievements
  • 6+ new music tracks
  • more poop!

The most impressive new item, the previously mentioned “Friend Ball,” will allow players to capture any non-boss enemy and release it to do their bidding. Essentially, the enemy is charmed and will attack non-stop until it is killed.

McMillen also justified the game’s exclusivity to New Nintendo 3DS stating that the original Nintendo 3DS just wasn’t working on the level of quality that he and development team Nicalis had wanted.

The game will not be released for the old 3ds, only the new 3ds will run it, we worked on it for over a year and it looked/played horribly. it will only come out for the NEW 3ds system, WiiU and Xbox1.

No release date has been set for The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth just yet, but it will be released for the PlayStation 4 PS Vita, PC, New Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Xbox One.
