Best Star Wars Games TechnoBuffalo 2021
Playing games can be a fantastic way of interacting with friends and enjoying a good night in. If you are a big Star Wars fan, then there are a plethora of amazing games out there to play. Thankfully we have played them all so we can narrow your search down a bit.
- Dog fights in space: Star Wars: X-Wing miniatures
- Master the dice: Star Wars: Destiny
- Grand space battles: Star Wars: Armada
- Risk it all for the rebellion: Star Wars: Rebellion
- A different type of game: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: Deluxe edition
Have you ever wanted to be Wedge Antilles, fighting the good fight against the evil Empire? Or perhaps you want to be a TIE fighter pilot, dodging through the oncoming X-Wing to defend the Death Star? X-Wing miniatures is a tactics game that creates dog fights between two-player and is, frankly, amazing. I cannot express how much fun it is to pilot multiple ships against an opponent and use tactics to defeat them. It's intoxicating.
Star Wars: Destiny is another two-player game, this time a card and dice game. You choose your hero and combat the opposing player using specialty dice to determine which of the abilities you can use. It's a quick game in its basic form but can become more convoluted as you advance and buy more expansions. It's also very cheap, meaning you can buy it and start playing on a very low budget.
Armada is like X-Wing on steroids. It takes the base tactical game of X-Wing and ups the scale factor by introducing battlecruisers, frigates, and even capital ships. The x-wing and Tie fighters in this game are relegated to small squadrons that can fly around the big ships. If you want to feel the scale of an actual Star Wars space battle, then Armada is the game for you.
Rebellion is a far more traditional board game than others on this list. In these games, you make moves on a planetary scale, and it is far more like Risk than any other game. You can move your forces to occupy different planets from the Star Wars canon until you control everything. This game even has room for up to four players, unlike the other two-player games on this list.
Not all Star Wars games are board games, and if you are looking for one of the best Star Wars video games ever, the Fallen Order is for you. The game itself is part of the current lore of the central Star Wars universe and uses that to create a compelling story of a youngling that survived Order 66. The game itself is a combat-based platformer with beautiful visuals and steep learning curve. This game will test your video game muscles, but it's worth it in the end.
Live the Star Wars universe
I can't be a Jedi. There I finally said it allowed. I am one with the Force, but it is not with me. What I can do, though, is enjoy being a small part of the star wars universe through the games that have been made for me. I can tell you that I have spent more money on Star Wars: X-Wing than I care to admit and I love getting lost in an epic battle against an equally excited opponent. Commanding the Millenium Falcon, as well as Poe Dameron's X-Wing is as much fun as you can have on a table.
If you are looking for a more traditional game, then perhaps Rebellion is the right choice for you? It's a very Risk-like game with a traditional movement structure built in the Star Wars Universe. It's a lot of fun, especially with four players.
