Ever since Batman v Superman disappointed at the box office, the fate of Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight has been called into question. He returned for another appearance in Justice League yet the film’s negative reviews and disappointing box office performance did little to stop talk of Affleck exiting the role. This in turn led to a lot of uncertainty regarding the standalone Batman movie.
Over a year later, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the movie, however, a new report could indicate when the movie will get made.
According to The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, Matt Reeve’s script rewrite is due by the end of the year. Reeves has been working on the script the over a year and is expected to focus on the early years of Bruce Wayne’s career as Batman.
With the new script due by the end of the year, this could place the production date of the project some time in 2019, which could boast well for a 2020 release date. This, of course, is conjecture on our part as Warner Bros. has not made any definitive announcements for the project, but it’s the best we’ve gotten since Matt Reeves was brought onto the project.
