I adored the original Banner Saga. The game was relentless in its course of beating me, depressing me and pushing me to become a better leader. Its music (composed by none other than Austin Wintory) and art coupled with the strategic gameplay I enjoy so much pushed it from a game I liked to a game I loved.

Anyone who's completed The Banner Saga knows that it ends with a clear mission to be continued in a sequel. Stoic Studio unveiled that sequel last week at The Game Awards, and now they've announced that it's coming to the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.

The press release that announced platform availability included a quote from Steve Escalante, GM of publisher Versus Evil.

"There's a seismic shift in the video game industry as consumers embrace the contributions and creations of independent game-makers such as Stoic, the incredibly passionate creators of The Banner Saga and The Banner Saga 2…

…We are very proud to be leading the way with The Banner Saga 2 announcement at what is traditionally a AAA game's event. It's a great time to be an 'indie' and we couldn't be more proud to continue working with the Stoic team and our partners at Fearless Media who helped make this happen."

As an aside, the original Banner Saga was confirmed for the PS Vita at the PlayStation Experience show. So, you can play it on the go before leaping into the sequel once it launches.

The Banner Saga 2 does not have a release date yet, but the press release from Stoic and Versus Evil says we'll hear more about the game in early 2015.
