The Apple Watch is still the king of smartwatches.
A new data report from analytics firm Canalys reveals Apple shipped an estimated 3.5 million Apple Watches worldwide during the second quarter of 2018. The sum signifies a 30-percent growth over the same quarter last year, revealing Apple’s smartwatch is as popular as it has ever been.
Though the Apple Watch still reigns supreme, the competition is starting to give it a run for its money. Sales numbers for the Apple may have gone up, but its smartwatch market share went down. Fitbit and Garmin released a slew of new watches that caught on with consumers. During the second quarter in 2017, Apple held a 43-percent market share, but that fell down to 34-percent in the second quarter of 2018.
Apple is reportedly releasing a redesigned Apple Watch model this year that will have a bigger display in an effort to continue making the smartwatch appealing to customers.
