The Bollinger B1 is a gaudy car dubbed a “sports utility truck” that looks like it belongs climbing mountains. It features a stealthy black and metal aesthetic that is more brawn than sheer beauty. But that’s what the design team was going for with the outright rugged build.
When it came to the B1’s exterior aesthetic, Bollinger went for a simplified take. The chassis looks like sheets of metal were welded together, making it look like a bulletproof tank. Its design is mostly boxy, ditching the sleek lines in modern cars. Inside, the story is pretty much the same. Instead of a sophisticated interior complete with an all-digital center console, everything is simplified to the truest sense of the word. Gone are any fancy displays and in their place is reserved optical dials.
Powering this tank-like truck is a dual-motor drivetrain that produces 360 horsepower and 472-pound feet of torque. That, coupled with the zero lag electric motors provide, make the B1 speed up to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. Quite impressive for a vehicle as large as this one. It will come with a standard 60kWh battery that has range of 120 miles while a bigger 100kWh option is also available and ups the mile range to 200 miles.
Bollinger Motors is marketing its B1 truck in the same market held by Jeep and Land Rovers’ rugged vehicles. It will also price the B1 between the two. The higher tier version with the 100kWh battery option will fall somewhere around $60,000.
There’s still no specific timeframe when we’ll see the Bollinger B1 hit the market, but if all goes according the plan, expect a release date in 2019 or 2020.
