“Effective February 1, 2017, Tesla Motors, Inc. amended each of its certificate of incorporation and its bylaws solely to reflect a change of its corporate name to ‘Tesla, Inc.,'” the SEC filing says.

No immediate explanation

The company didn’t dive into why it decided to change its name, but perhaps it’s because most of the public already call it by the shortened “Tesla” moniker instead of its full “Tesla Motors” title. The company has been using the latter since it was founded in 2003.

For whatever reason, Tesla’s website still refers to the company as Tesla Motors. We expect that’ll change quickly.
