Tesla is launching a new web-based service with Supercharger pitstops included. The planning feature was already available to Tesla customers through the navigation system inside its cars, but now the feature will be available to everybody through a new web version.
Using Google Maps, the service maps out Supercharger pit stops along a trip to make sure you reach your destination without getting stranded. Accessing the mapping service can be done through Tesla’s site. Before you set a start and stop point, you can specify which type of Tesla vehicle you are driving along with battery capacity.
The three vehicles you can choose from are the Model S, Model X and Model 3, and the battery capacities include the 75kWh Battery, 100kWh Battery and 100kWh Battery Performance for the S and X or Long Range Battery Rear Wheel Drive for the Model 3. In making the service available, Tesla hopes it will act as an education tool for potential customers to learn about long-distance road trip planning with its cars.
In the gallery above, you can see what a road trip would look like from Los Angeles to Chicago using a Model S with a 100kWh battery. The feature pinpointed 13 stops along the way where drivers you can top off the battery.
