Who doesn’t have at least one co-worker whose crazy antics or rebellious notions makes them a load of fun to be around? Or a colleague who’s nice and all, but is a walking disaster at the office. So of course, that has to be the person who hits you up for a LinkedIn recommendation, right? Anyone who’s been in the situation knows how uncomfortable this can be.

It might seem harmless to just jot a few comments and click submit, but an online recommendation is like any other reference — you’re basically vouching for them. And it might even be worse here than writing up a letter or email, because you’ll be linking your names together and putting that on display for anyone in both those networks to see. If you don’t do it, however, you risk offending the person, damaging the working relationship, and — if you’re close — possibly even losing the friendship.
