Microsoft recently slashed the price of the Surface 2, last year's tablet that runs Windows RT 8.1, by $100. The discount applies to every model of the Surface 2, including the 32GB option, the 64GB model and the 64GB model that includes AT&T LTE radios. No, it's not as powerful as the Surface Pro 3, which launched only recently, but it also commands a much lower price.

The Surface 2 with 32GB of storage is now priced at $349, the 64GB model will cost you $449 and the LTE model with 64GB of storage is priced at $579. Microsoft says the price cut is only available for a limited time, though didn't say when the prices will change, if ever. The Type Cover 2 can be bundled with the device for $109.01, down from $129.99, and is available in purple, magenta, cyan and charcoal. Additionally, you can choose to bundle with a $25 Windows Store Gift Card for $10 or Microsoft's Complete Extended Service plan, which is now $65 instead of $99. Microsoft is also discounting an array of sleeves, many of which are more than half off.

All said and done, you can grab a 32GB Surface 2 with a Type Cover 2 for $458.01 before taxes. That's not a bad deal but, if you have the budget and like the Surface form factor, we recommend considering the entry-level Surface Pro 3, which has a much more powerful Windows 8.1 operating system, 64GB of storage and a more powerful Intel Core i3 processor. That starts at $799 without a Surface Pro Type Cover ($129.99), but will provide a much more robust user experience.
