Super7 is making itself the kings of nostalgia, and it’s doing a bang-up job to be sure. Toy Fair 2018 the company had plenty to get tongues wagging and your wallets opening.
While 3 & 3/4-inch figures are still a significant part of the company’s portfolio, it is expanding out in ways that none of us could have seen coming.
At Toy Fair 2018 there was plenty of new product to be seen, starting off with the Masters of the Universe line. He-Man and his friends were huge in the 1980s both figuratively and literally. Super7 has gone about shrinking some of them down to under 4-inches while also revisiting the more massive originals. And this time, there are also versions that more closely mimic the Filmation animated series than the original series ever did.
Additionally, get ready for a whole lot of tumbler glasses done in the style of those you could get at fast food restaurants in the late 70s and early 80s.
Universal Monsters is one of the new major licenses for the company this year and it is embracing it in full. This is part of its initiative to celebrate Halloween all your long and we’re here for it.
This will also include new figures based on the original Nosferatu film, a figure of iconic director Alfred Hitchcock, and additions to the company’s Hellboy line.
Other new items include all new sculpt for the old Super Soapy soap bottles of the Universal Monsters and Super Buckets, new molds for buckets to used while Trick or Treating or just nifty displays.
Hasbro has granted some licenses to Super7 for new 12-inch Transformers figures that will have transparent chests to display their inner workings such as the Matrix of Leadership that resides in Optimus Prime’s chest. The company also has a G.I. Joe license, but for now that only means some tumbler glasses.
With ReAction now being fully under Super7’s control, there will be a reissue of the old Alien figures with new sculpts. Planet of the Apes will also be receiving another series of figures.
And those Super Buckets for the Transformers are amazing. They will make wonderful display pieces for any Transformers fan. And the Alien one will just frighten you, but in the right way.
Another license picked up this year is Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, and we will see new action figures for the classic TV series.
Legends of Lucha Libre will receive action figures and Super7’s blind box treatment called Keshi.
Speaking of Keshi, we will also see them released for Alien, Masters of the Universe, Robotech and more.
There is going to be a lot of new products coming from Super7 over this year, and it looks like it’s going to be a heck of a ride for collectors.
