Nintendo announced yesterday that Sonic the Hedgehog would be making his second trip into the Super Smash Bros. series, and now it has the gallery to back it up.
Although he fits right in with Nintendo, none of them seem able to land a hit on the speed demon. Mario can’t land a punch, Samus misses at point blank range, Link is all tripped up, and poor Luigi finds himself on the butt end of yet another character. The guy never gets a break, does he?
The only one who seems to have a drop on Sonic is his third-party rival this time around, Mega Man. But what else did you expect? He’s Mega Man!
Sonic brings the roster to 17 total characters. Snake has not yet made an appearance, but I don’t think he will. That little love affair between Metal Gear Solid and the GameCube has been over for quite some time now. The only characters I’m worried about not making the cut are Wario and Captain Falcon. They are two must haves to be the complete package, but not important enough to Nintendo canon to be shoe-ins either.
Sonic is a good pick, and I can’t wait to play as him when I pick up Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U next year. It’s half the reason I bought a Wii U and probably the last game I’ll ever spend $60 on.
