Get ready! This announcement is just as big for NES players as the addition of Mega Man to Super Smash Bros. Nintendo finally tapped into the classic Castlevania series during Wednesday morning’s Nintendo Direct presentation by announcing not one but TWO Belmonts are entering the fray in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
…of course, after brutally murdering Luigi at the hands of Death.
Poor Luigi.
Both Simon Belmont from the original Castlevania, and Richter Belmont from Casltevania: Rondo of Blood will be playable fighters in the game. They use similar techniques but will vary in how they control and where the focal points of their damage resides in their weapons.
Along with the two characters, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature the eternally awesome Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as a support trophy and a new Castlevania stage that slings various bosses from the series into fights. The stage also plays 42 songs from Castlevania’s supremely popular soundtracks.
Other announcements made this morning are the inclusion of Chrom and Dark Samus as Echo Fighters, characters based on other characters, and the number of stages in the game, which now totals at 103, almost double that of the previous game. Some classic stages from the Nintendo 64 days will be included and unaltered for nostalgia purposes.
The game also features over 800 songs that can be used during fights, and Rathalos from the Monster Hunter series appears as both a boss character and a assist trophy.
Nintendo closed the Direct presentation with the addition of King. K Rool, the antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country series, to the lineup, finally giving someone for the big ape to lash out against. Together, all three additions make up the 66, 67, and 68th characters on the list.
