Oh man, here we go. The wave of gamers who will complain about not being able to pre-order the Super Nintendo Classic Edition, myself among them, can now begin their internet nerd raging. The mini-console’s landing page went online last night at Best Buy at 2:15 am EST, opening pre-orders to the North American public for the first time.
Naturally, they were gone in twenty minutes… during the exact hour that I decided to take an afternoon Japan nap. No time for sleep if you’re a Nintendo fan!
I arrived on the website while the pre-order button was online, but clicking on it proved useless, adding it to my cart but telling me it was sold out. The good news, at least, is that Best Buy is only allowing for a single console to be pre-ordered by each buyer, and it is canceling orders by customers who got more than one.
At least the all-around competency level is on the rise from last year.
We always have Amazon, Target, and GameStop
Unlike Walmart’s ill-fated listing from earlier this month, Best Buy’s listing seems legitimate with buyers reporting that they are getting confirmation emails. Naturally, this means those of us who blinked or dared take a break from our daily lives will spend the next day more cautious than ever.
Isn’t it wonderful how much paranoia, suspicion, obsessive page reloading, and cruel disappointment lurks around a product that is supposed to make people happy?
We’ll keep an eye on the rest of the online retailers, but now that we’re glued to our computer screens for the next week, so is everyone else who missed out on the first batch. Happy hunting, you all. Nintendo has turned us into maniacs.
