Capcom is all about this third-party gravy train in Super Smash Bros, and I am liking it! Fans have uncovered pretty telling files in the latest 1.06 patch for the Nintendo 3DS, the one which lets you download characters as DLC packs, and these give a decent look into what future video game stars Nintendo plans to release into its all-star fighting game.
Far and away, the most exciting is Ryu from Street Fighter. A Reddit post by shinyquagsire23 points out two sound files that indicate his appearance might be happening soon: a victory theme and music straight from Ryu’ Level in Street Fighter II. I mean, whoa…
The rumor also seems to have a little weight because shinyquagsire23 points out that similar files regarding Mother 3’s Lucas also appear, and he was confirmed to be the first DLC character after Mewtwo makes the rounds for Club Nintendo members. Files for Fire Emblem‘s Roy also were uncovered in the patch, hinting as his return to the fighting stage after being absent from Brawl.
Roy’s our boy! You can hear the sound files in the video below from The Geek Critique.
Very interesting stuff, and shinyquagsire23 even states to Polygon that “although it’s unfortunately difficult to prove its legitimacy when you only have sound files to work with. I certainly don’t blame the scene for questioning the legitimacy of the leak though given what happened with the Rayman leak,” trying to make this leak seem more genuine by acknowledging a previous prank.
If this rumor pans out, Ryu will join Capcom’s own Mega Man, Bandai Namco’s PAC-MAN, and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog as the third-party characters in Super Smash Bros. It makes me wish Konami still wanted to be involved because Simon Belmont and Snake would fit nicely among those ranks.
Plus, Roy coming back is a huge plus. He was always my favorite in Melee.
