If you're a PlayStation 3 gamer from back during the launch period of the console, odds are you spent at least a little time with the excellent multiplayer combat title Warhawk. If you didn't, well, think of it as a futuristic, third-person version of Battlefield.

Hear that? That was the sound of diehard fans slamming their fists down on their desks in rage while thinking, "HOW DAAARE YOU!?" I'm keeping it simple, folks.

Starhawk, the follow-up to Warhawk from LightBox and SCEA Santa Monica, was made playable in a private beta throughout the months of November and December. The reception from press and the limited fan base that had a chance to play was impressive.

Starting January 17th, the beta is going a little more public by opening up the PlayStation Plus subscribers. There are several ways to get in after that date, but know that the beta will be fully open by February 21st, 2012.

Here's the rundown of entry dates, as provided by the PlayStation Blog:

January 17: All PlayStation Plus subscribers and all Private Beta participants (who haven't erased their original Private Beta files). You can learn more about PS Plus here.

January 31UNCHARTED 3 Beta key holders. These voucher codes were found inside of North American copies of UNCHARTED 3.

February 7: Visit GameStop and PlayStation on Facebook and see how you can get early voucher codes.

February 14IGN.com (details to be revealed soon)

February 21: Everyone with a PlayStation Network account…in other words, everyone who wants in, gets in!

If you own a PlayStation 3 and consider yourself a fan of multiplayer tactical combat with an emphasis on vehicles and high-powered weaponry, I promise Starhawk will be right up your alley. Do your part and snag the game during the beta.

The beta will end sometime after February 21st, according to the PlayStation Blog.
