Something major happened today. Disney revealed the official title for Star Wars: Episode IX—it's called Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—and dropped the first trailer. As you'd expect, people are having very visceral reactions.

There's so much to unpack in the trailer, we'll leave that for another post, but all the information that is revealed is messing with people's minds.

Why the Rise of Skywalker? Is Rey a Skywalker? Does she have even more badass Jedi powers? Is that the Death Star? Holy crap, is that Palpatine?

Yes, there are a lot of emotions flying around, and many fans are are taking to Twitter to cope with everything. Some are trying to understand how Palpatine could return while others are just trying to enjoy the trailer.

Of course, as of the writing of this post, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is at the top of the six most popular trends on Twitter. Star Wars has always been a global phenomenon, and when you pair that with a perfect teaser, you get pandemonium.

J.J. Abrams and company seem to have another massive hit on their hands. They are perfectly blending the Star Wars lore with new ideas that are getting fans truly excited.

Unfortunately, we still have over eight months to go before The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters on December 20, 2019. Following its movie theater release, it'll be available to stream exclusively on the new Disney+ streaming service.
