It wouldn’t be a Star Wars movie without some of the franchise’s most iconic features, including the Millennium Falcon, the Force, and lightsabers. Apparently, Lucasfilm feels Star Wars also can’t exist with a superweapon.
According to a new leak, J.J. Abrams is gearing up to introduce a new superweapon in Star Wars: Episode IX, one that’s capable of obliterating planets. The new superweapon will join the ranks of the Death Star (and Death Star #2) and Starkiller Base.
Details for the new superweapon were revealed through leaked concept art:
Kylo Ren inside his throne room, assumed to be the headquarters of the First Order, viewing a hologram from a device held in his hand. Kylo appears to be examining three large super weapons that are in a cylindrical shape with an enormous engine on each side of each super weapon of this ship.weapon, destroying terrain on a planet. The engine burner is colored red and the blast from the bottom of these three massive weapons is colored blue, impacting a surface causing astronomical destruction. Parts of the weapon seem to be under construction and not finished.
Fans of the franchise have noted the description’s similarities to the World Devastator, which exist in the Star Wars expanded universe. These weapons are described as highly efficient and capable of tearing planets apart.
These weapons are much smaller than something like the Death Star, making them more portable and therefore more deadly.
Very little is known about Star Wars: Episode IX at this point, but there have been a few leaks and theories over the past few months. We’re still over a year from the movie’s release, but hopefully we start learning more soon.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
