Star Wars: Episode IX won’t be landing in theaters until December 2019, 16 long months from now, but that isn’t satisfying our curiosity about the movie. Few details are known about the movie’s plot or exactly where it will take place, but a new round of set photos give us a good idea of what some of our favorite characters have been up to since the events of The Last Jedi.
In the set photos revealed by The Sun, we can see Poe Dameron and Finn, portrayed by Oscar Isaac and John Boyega, going down a grassy hill on a remote planet. Not only that, we can also see a few other characters including Chewbacca at the top of the hill riding majestic horse creatures.
These horse-like creatures are likely some new type of creature entirely. That’s part of the fun in exploring new planets set within the Star Wars universe; it gives us an opportunity to see very creative creatures like what we saw on Ahch-To and Crait.
As for what the photos tell us about Star Wars: Episode IX, that is next to nothing other than at some point in the movie, Poe and Finn will go to this very location looking for something. It may very well be the location of the new Resistance base, but that’s just a guess.
Episode IX is expected to pick up right where The Last Jedi left off. Now that Luke Skywalker and Snoke are out of the way, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) has full control of the First Order and will look to squash any remnant of the Jedi and Resistance, most notably Rey (Daisy Ridley).
Alongside Poe, Finn, Kylo Ren and Rey, Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia is also expected to return for the movie. The movie will use scenes she shot prior to her untimely passing last year to continue to incorporate her in the ongoing storyline.
Star Wars: Episode IX will arrive in theaters December 20, 2019.
