Since meeting Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the character has been volatile and unpredictable, with his mental state reaching a breaking point in last year's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. According to a new report, things aren't going to improve by the time Star Wars: Episode IX roles around.

Making Star Wars claims Kylo Ren's mental state will be even more erratic to close out the trilogy, with his appearance an outward reflection of his crumbling interior conflict. One of the ways the movie will show off the "new" Kylo Ren will be with a reforged helment.

Apparently, after destroying his helmet in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren pieces it back together "using some kind of red crystalline bonding material."

"The visual gave the mask 'a very corrupted look,'" Making Star Wars said. "A little Kylo, a little Vader, and maybe even with a hint of Maul's facial stylings.

I can't wait to see the new helment on the big screen.

Seeing Kylo Ren descend further into madness makes sense narratively for the character, as he becomes Supreme Leader Ren of the First Order. With him going further to the Dark Side, does that mean he's completely irredeemable?

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
