I write a lot about PlayStation sales around here, and it’s become almost routine with the passing weeks. Oh look… more indie deals and BioShock Infinite. 15 minutes must be up. Hooray.

This week’s Square Enix sale is different in that I get the shivers just looking at the games available. It reads like a laundry list of all of my absolute favorites, and each of these timeless adventures would fit just nicely into your summer play list with prices that go as low as $2.99.

It’s a shame I already own them all, or I almost feel I’d liked to double dip. Let’s see what we can buy.

Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy Tactics are the two easiest choices, and if you’re on a budget, they’ll keep you the happiest. I also just recently wrote about Legend of Mana, and the call to revisit it getting a bit too large to ignore.

Those wanting to play Final Fantasy VII are out of luck, though, with Square Enix obviously not interested in dropping the price of the PSOne Classic or the HD PlayStation 4 port. Both Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX are available at a discount, as well as the horrible PlayStation ports of Final Fantasy V and VI. Trust me and don’t pick those up unless you have no other choice. The loading times are a killer.

Big “NO!” on the PlayStation version of Chrono Trigger, unless you have no other options. Again, the loading times.

If you’re in the mood for something more modern, Final Fantasy XIV is a great place to start, and the PlayStation 4 remaster of Final Fantasy X proves the game is still able to hang with the best of them.

If you are new to these games and are getting to experience them for the first time, I am totally jealous of you. Keep in mind that a good many of these are almost 20 years old. In 20 years, I doubt many of the games of today will demand the same reverence as these. That’s what we call a true classic, and for as low as $3, that’s a bargain!
