Normally, I'm not one for Japanese comedy, but it works well in the context of being ironic towards nerdy vices like in Final Fantasy. Square Enix tapped into this fun sense of humor with its Japanese launch party for Final Fantasy XV yesterday, pulling out all the stops: ridiculing a man of authority, making fun of chubby people, pointing out the oddities of everyday life, and steaming with awkward silences and uncomfortable situations.

Oh, it's absolutely brilliant! Noctis wakes up to a strange phone call and bursts from his tent to find his friends decking out their campsite for their private launch event. Ignis and Gladiolus play it totally deadpan, and they don't seem to mind that Prompto is missing. Noctis runs off to find him, and Gladiolus starts doing one-handed push-ups with Ignis sitting, drinking coffee on his back… just because.

Switch to a downtown location, Noctis looks for his lost friend through a bustling Final Fantasy XV launch event in his hometown. Everywhere he walks, retailers ask him if he's pre-ordered his game or if he's excited to finally play his own adventure. When he finds Prompto, the blondie punk eats a few local snacks and reverts to his fat, childhood self, only 30 feet tall!

He throws ice cream around as Noctis tries his best to calm the friend down, and more wackiness ensues.

Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda even shows up

Towards the end of the demo, Noctis solves the mystery of the mysterious phone call, and it turns out to be Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda! Noctis is then forced to battle the man who greenlit his existence for the sake of saving his friend. And of course, there's a happy ending for everyone!

Us in the real world get to celebrate, too! Final Fantasy XV is available now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and that is just the finest present of them all.
