Sprint announced today that is adding support for placing calls over Wi-Fi to select phones from its lineup of devices.

Users of the Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 Mini have a nice surprise coming their way. Sprint has announced its pushing out an update that will allow you to connect to Wi-Fi networks to place your calls. Be it at home, work or public hotspots, you'll now be able to use the Internet to connect with your contacts even if you are in a weak signal area.

While only two phones are supported at this time, Sprint said that it has plans to roll this feature out to more devices through out the year. Our suspicion is you won't see this coming to the iPhone any time soon as T-Mobile has been unable to add the feature to that device, but we'll just have to wait and see.

We reached out to Sprint to see if this feature would work outside of the United States to alleviate some of the fees you run into while traveling internationally, but the carrier confirmed that this will only work while inside the country.

Wi-Fi calling support will definitely be welcomed by users who encounter various dead spots in service through out their day, we just hope it comes to a wider range of devices in short order.
