Spider-Man’s suit was decked out with fancy tech in Captain America: Civil War, and it’s getting even more upgrades in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Of course, we’ve already gotten a glimpse at what to expect in the most recent trailer, but now we have details on what else we’ll see when the movie hits this summer.
Note: There are some minor spoilers ahead
Apparently, Spidey’s suit features an unnamed AI, similar to the AI that exists inside the armor worn by Tony Stark. (Early on, it was JARVIS, then he was replaced by FRIDAY.) IGN reports:
[Peter] starts asking the AI for help, but he’s not used to working with an artificial intelligence the way Tony Stark is, so when Peter asks for directions on how to get somewhere, for example, the AI responds by wanting to know if he’ll be driving, or walking.
The new suit will reportedly feature a heater, an airbag, the ability to light up, a parachute, and a tracking device, among other gizmos. Many of these upgrades have appeared in the comics at some point or another, like the web wings that are briefly shown off in the most recent trailer, so they’ll be familiar to hardcore Spider-Man fans.
I’m nothing without this suit
As we saw in the most recent trailer, Peter really grows fond of the suit, but there’s an implication that he lets it define him. So, of course, Tony Stark will take it away, and Spidey will learn that he didn’t need it all along.
What other surprises will the suit reveal? Well, in addition to being able to shoot different kinds of webs (including one that functions like a taser), the suit will also alter Spider-Man’s vision.
“He can sort of alter what he sees and how he sees things, and it’s really funny to see,” explained actor Tom Holland.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7.
