Sony Yuga front

What is thought to be an upcoming Sony smartphone has been leaked online — and it’s worth getting excited about if you’re a “phablet” fan. Called the Sony Yuga — or the Sony C6603 — the device sports a large 5-inch display, which a full high-definition 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution.

The handset is expected to become Sony’s flagship smartphone for 2013, and it’s already out in the wild. The pictures you see here were published by Swiss Android blog Android-Schweiz, and they show off glass front- and rear-panels (like the iPhone 4S), and a rather large button — presumably for the camera — on the side of the device.

The Sony Yuga is completely sealed all the way around, according to the report, which means no removable battery. There is a microSD card slot on the side, however, along with a HDMI port. The device is said to be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, which is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Sony Yuga back

That makes the Sony Yuga just as fast as the Samsung Galaxy Note II — this year’s hottest phablet — on paper. If only we had some clearer pictures.

Are you excited about the Sony Yuga?
