Sony recently published a blog post covering the highlights of 2013. The company focused on its launches of the Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZR, Zperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and SmartWatch 2. It said that it felt, with the Xperia Z, that it innovated on smartphone design, and with the Xperia Z1, it innovated with technology. Sony also provided some insight into what we can expect in 2014.
While it's unlikely the Japanese phone maker will sit quiet in 2014, it did say that the Xperia Z1 will remain its flagship smartphone in 2014 and that it's the most popular selling smartphone Sony has ever sold. The device hasn't hit the United States yet, so perhaps we'll see that finally happen this year. Likewise, it said that its "OmniBalance design is, and will remain, a key element of what makes our products special." OmniBalance is Sony's "design language" for Sony's Xperia smartphones, and the words "will remain" suggests that new devices are coming down the road.
Meanwhile, Sony also said that its SmartWatch 2 product "exceeded our expectations in terms of sales." Perhaps that's enough kindling for Sony to create another device, and we wouldn't be surprised to see it do so as the wearables market heats up in 2014.
