Well, well, well – Samsung issues news that it's working on its own smart watch and on the same day Sony issued a software update for its own SmartWatch product, which launched last year. The update includes new watch faces and improved notifications, the company said, as well as better search options for finding new SmartWatch applications (of which there are now more than 200).

Sony also promised improved battery level indication, the ability to see snippets of messages, wall posts to Facebook and new tweets, although you're still limited on how you can respond to those messages. Sony said it's also going to begin selling new wristbands in purple and turquoise, as well as patterned bands, and a new charging cable.

The update for the SmartWatch is available in Google Play now.
