HTC and Motorola Mobility recently published lists of handsets slated to receive Android 4.0 in the near or distant future. Not to be outdone by the competition, Sony has followed suit and launched its “Upgrade to Android 4.0” page. Aside from listing a ton of details about Ice Cream Sandwich that the average Android enthusiast already knows, this page also lists devices that are expected to receive the push to Android 4.0. Absent from this listing is any type of timeframe pointing to when we can expect to see this chosen list of devices receive their software bump. Also absent from this listing is Sony’s PlayStation Certified Xperia Play, a device that Sony itself provided an Ice Cream Sandwich beta ROM for willing testers.

Could it be that this game-friendly smartphone is getting snubbed? There’s still no official word from Sony Mobile confirming or denying the Xperia Play’s exclusion from Ice Cream Sandwich, so hopefully this listing will receive an update. It should also be noted that this web page does state that Android 4.0 “will be made available on all 2011 Xperia phones.” So all hope isn’t lost. In the meantime, check out the list of lucky devices that have made the cut so far.
