Is this it? Are we looking at a glorious return to greatness for the blue hedgehog that defined so many of our childhoods? That’s a distinct possibility with the upcoming Sonic Mania. The game has a brand new trailer and a price point.

Let’s start with the trailer.

Right, so Sonic Mania will launch on August 15, 2017. It’ll sell for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and (digitally) Nintendo Switch. The stellar price point? $19.99. I remember saving tons of money as a kid to buy Sonic games that looked like this one for my Sega Genesis.

Which is really why we’re all excited, right? For far too long, it seems like Sega’s been trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the Sonic franchise. It’s worked at times, but the recent tear has been a bad one.

To see that Sega is working on both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces at the same time is encouraging. It’s especially encouraging because one looks modern while the other looks classic. Why not try to appeal to both fanbases at once?

I’m just hoping its quality is up to snuff. If it feels like the classic Sonic so many of us grew up with, this August will be huge.
