Just about every actor to have starred in the DC Comics television shows of yore has cropped up at one time or another in the CW’s so-called Arrowverse, with one glaring exception: Tom Welling, star of Smallville. After playing Clark Kent for 10 seasons, the actor distanced himself from superhero media. Now, though, he’s ready to pop in, if just for a moment.
Welling has been making guest appearances on Fox’s Lucifer, and spoke about the CW’s shows during a party for Fox’s lineup.
“I am willing to go on The Flash, and I have a few ideas on how it can happen if the network asks me,” Welling said, according to a report from Nuke The Fridge. “In fact, I think I can make it happen.”
The list of actors who have appeared on Arrowverse is pretty extensive. On The Flash, we’ve seen John Wesley Shipp, Amanda Pays, Alex Désert, and even Mark Hamill, all of whom were members of the 1993 Flash TV show’s cast. Supergirl, meanwhile, has used Dean Cain, Helen Slater, and Teri Hatcher as characters’ parents. Lynda Carter – Wonder Woman herself – showed up as the President of the United States on the later show.
Even the older shows like Smallville and Lois & Clark managed to get actors from previous live-action incarnations of these characters to make guest appearances. Smallville notably featured an appearance from Superman himself, Christopher Reeve. It’s a fun tradition, and we’d love to see Welling and the CW people make it work.
Whether he appears as a Kryptonian or something else altogether? That’s for the writers to figure out.
