Skull and Bones was the biggest surprise at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference, but the lingering questions of Ubisoft’s previous multiplayer games raise legitimate concerns over just how long the game will be viable for. The Division lasted a year with many feeling that its potential and promised content had not been reached, and For Honor is already a forgotten memory.

Many hope that a single player campaign and a story will help extend its shelf life, and Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will have one. In the FAQ about the game on its official press release, Ubisoft says that the game will have a self-contained story.

Q: Does SKULL & BONES include a single player campaign? We are building a narrative system which is completely integrated in the game and will not be something aside of the multiplayer experience. You will encounter iconic characters and memorable rival pirates. More details about the single player campaign will be shared at a later date.

Good, you can’t just make multiplayer exclusive games for the rest of your existence and expect fans to stick around after they all wash up and dry. There needs to be something long lasting for games to make an impression, and Skull and Bones could deliver just that.

The game will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in fall 2018.
