Late last week, Daniel Lingen, EA’s senior manager of community engagement, shot off a tweet that elevated a lot of hopes. “#skate4” is all he wrote, and that scored nearly 15,000 retweets and over 25,000 likes.

People were pumped.

Sorry, people, Lingen seems to have simply been teasin’. Skate 4 isn’t a thing right now.

EA spoke with investors during their earnings briefing last night, and they ruled out the rumor that they’re at work on Skate 4. When an investor asked about 2017’s financial potential, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said EA is “not presently making Skate 4.” Wilson even quipped about how much of a bummer that news is to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen.

I still think that tweet means something

Lingen didn’t become a senior manager with EA by misfiring tweets. He knows what he’s doing, and clearly, he intended to stoke some flames or gauge feedback for Skate 4 with the tweet.

It remains published, and one has to assume that EA knows it was fired off following the engagement rate it has received. That tweet means something. What? I have no idea.

We’ll have the news of Skate 4 if and when it comes.
