Mass Effect 3 marks the closure of one of the finest trilogies to ever grace the realm of the western RPG genre. BioWare just sent over six screenshots meant for the PAX Prime 2011 crowd. We figured we’d wrangle them up and toss them in a gallery for your viewing pleasure.

One item new to the Mass Effect universe is the crazy blade arm you see above. The tech-blade is, as it’s believed now, available to the soldier class versions of Commander Shepard (Scratch that, it’s available to all classes.). Hold down the melee button while upon an enemy and Shep will bust out his or her wicked blade and go for the quick, clean kill.

Combat has been one of the many points of emphasis surrounding the development and convention presentations for Mass Effect 3. Players will experience a game that feels more like a shooter than ever before. The jump in combat quality from the first to the second was tremendous. The additional abilities to roll, properly shoot while running and blind-fire over cover should make the transition from Mass Effect 2 to Mass Effect 3 even more outstanding.

Mass Effect 3 is currently set to launch simultaneously (a first for the series) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 6th, 2012.

That’s a ways away, sorry. To comfort yourselves, sift through the image gallery below to check the six shots released today.
