Shenmue III had made history by becoming the second video game in Kickstarter's existence to score $5 million through the website. As RED ASH has proven, even reaching the basic funding goal is no guarantee anymore, so Director Yu Suzuki and his team at Ys Net must certainly be proud of their record breaking achievement.

To celebrate the final countdown, Ys Net has released another trailer for the game called "Lake of the Lantern Bugs." Fireflies have long been seen as a romantic and deep image in Japan, so who can think of a more perfect way for two star crossed lovers to wrap up their journey? Yup, apparently this is the end of "their long journey," according to the update.

It is still a work in progress, but Yu Suzuki has sent it with loving care and hopes it will be all that the fans of the series have come to love, and will show those new to the game some of the wonder and magic they can expect from the continually unfolding world of Shenmue. Ryo and Shenhua arrive at the Lake of the Lantern Bugs after their long journey. Entranced, they watch the gentle flight of the lantern bugs upon the mirage-like oasis.

I'm so glad that Shenmue III is about to become a reality. The campaign might have wrapped up shy of the unlikely $10 million Yu Suzuki was hoping for, but that $5 million is nothing to scoff at, especially if Sony throws a few more clams its way.

Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best in the closing 48 hours.
