As it stands right now, it looks like Shenmue 3 will run at 30fps on the PlayStation 4. Developer Yu Suzuki aimed for 60fps, but that seems unachievable.

This comes from an interview with DualShockers. When talking about the development process and working on both the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, DualShockers naturally asked about the target framerate for the PS4.

“For the moment, I’m thinking about 30 frames per second. 60 might be too difficult, but I’m not sure yet.”

For PC, we imagine hitting 60fps with the right hardware won’t be an issue. Whether or not the team elects to cap the framerate is another matter entirely.

While the higher framerate would be preferable, it seems like most developers are having to make tough choices when it comes to the current generation of consoles. They can achieve 60 frames per second, but that might mean cutting effects or mechanics entirely in order to make it happen. It seems that, instead, we’re seeing developers go for the 30fps framerate while maintaining more of what makes their game work.

In the end, I just want stability. If running at 30fps is what it takes to experience less stutters and drops, I’ll take it.
