Guillermo del Toro may not be doing a third Hellboy film, but it feels as though as he's getting a bit of a fix with his latest film, The Shape of Water.

Tuesday saw the release of the first trailer for del Toro's newest film, The Shape of Water. Set in the 1960s, Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is a mute woman that works at a government facility where a gilled fish-man (Doug Jones) is being kept. She befriends the man, but comes to find out that Strickland (Michael Shannon) wants to dissect him for study.

At first glance, the facility holds some similarities to the B.P.R.D. HQ in the Hellboy films, but the connections don't end there. Doug Jones is again playing an underwater man similar to the role of Abe Sapien he played in those other films. And one has to wonder what del Toro's fascination is with feeding eggs to men who live under water.

All that being said, del Toro fans – myself included – are always excited when he releases a new film.

The Shape of Water hits theaters on Dec. 8.
