SEGA is out to remake another of its classic games in 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, and the aging Genesis action game Shinobi III seems to be the lucky pick.
Excellent choice, as well. Aside from having incredible action and being one of the best looking games on the SEGA Genesis, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is a masterpiece of parallax scrolling, an art of classic video games.
Think of it as having several layers of environment scrolling at different speeds while your character runs right. It adds depth to the background by giving a sense of distance and allowing objects in the foreground to appear closer. We see it today in games like New Super Mario Bros. U.
Although it doesn’t especially need the 3DS technology to look fantastic, it will still be exciting to see how SEGA reworks the classic to make use of it.
At any rate, it’s also a much better game than the original Shinobi which came out for the Nintendo 3DS a few years ago. Those who were left underwhelmed should definitely give the series a second chance with this game. It’s in a class of its own.
Again, nothing official, but if this rumor proves to be true, expect an announcement from SEGA not too far in the future.
