A haunting rendition of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” complements the first trailer for Paramount’s live-action interpretation of Ghost in the Shell. In it, we get an extended look at Scarlett Johansson in the title role of The Major.

The live-action film has been mired in controversy since Johansson was cast but, hopefully, those (warranted) criticisms will be eased now that the trailer has been unveiled. The movie looks fantastic; director Rupert Sanders seems to have done an excellent job bringing the manga to life.

Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

Cyborg counter-cyberterrorist field commander The Major (Scarlett Johansson), and her task force Section 9 thwart cyber criminals and hackers. Now, they must face a new enemy who will stop at nothing to sabotage Hanka Robotic’s artificial intelligence technology.

The movie looks gorgeous

Ghost in the Shell will be under a lot of pressure because of Johansson’s casting as the lead, who is Asian. But according to Sanders, she was so perfect that he couldn’t see anyone else doing The Major justice. Whether the film can overcome the early controversies remains to be seen.

Ghost in the Shell is scheduled to hit theaters on March 31, 2017.
