Everyone is in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel. Well, not everyone. Samuel L. Jackson – and, consequently, Nick Fury – is missing from the epic-sized affair. And man, is he ticked. He let Yahoo! know just what he was thinking.
“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”
Oof. I mean, he’s not wrong. His character kicked off the Avengers team-up at the end of the first Iron Man, and he played a crucial role in putting the team together. Since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though, he’s been in exile and taking a back seat.
With the stakes in Infinity War being the literal fabric of space and time, Fury is a bit out of his depth, but it seems weird to be pushing him out so completely. Jackson’s character does play a big role in Captain Marvel, the Brie Larson movie set in the 1990s, which will play a big role in getting Marvel’s fourth phase up and running. And it’s not like he’s not in high demand in Hollywood otherwise.
But it makes sense for him to wonder why Fury’s sitting so many Marvel movies out after doing so much to get them started. And we’re definitely calling Civil War the “Superhero Argument movie” from now on, right?
