Word has been around for a while that Samsung has been working on a new phone, we just didn’t know what it was going to be. Reports suggested it could be a third variant of the Galaxy S9 or possibly even the Galaxy S10, but they were all wrong. This mysterious device is called the Galaxy S8 Lite and it’s a budget friendly version of its namesake.
In new press renders released by Weibo, we get a clear look at what the device will look like. Design-wise, the Galaxy S8 Lite is keeping the stunning design of the Galaxy S line with the glass front and back and metal band. It’s also going to feature the 5.8-inch Infinity Display with the cascading edges, although the display will come in at a lower resolution of 2220 by 1080 pixels. The camera and fingerprint layout is also a carbon copy of that found in the standard S8: the single camera is in the middle and the fingerprint is located just to the right of it.
Unfortunately, the Bixby button is also being included on the left side.
When you look at the specs, that’s when you notice that this is not the standard Galaxy S8. Its internals consist of a Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 16MP camera and 3,000mAh battery. While not on the level of Samsung’s marquee flagships, it still sounds solid.
The renders shown off feature the device in two color options: black and red. The red in particular really pops and kind of steals some of the limelight away from the red iPhone 8.
Beyond that, we don’t know how much it’ll cost or when it’ll be released. It is expected to be released in China soon, but no word of if or when it’ll make its way to the States.
