The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been widely praised for its incredible display and fantastic build. But all that glass has us worried it’s fragile. So, just how durable is it? Stress test maestro JerryRigEverything put the device through its paces and the results were quite surprising.

The Galaxy S8 features Gorilla Glass 5 on the front to cover the gorgeous Infinity Display, and it doesn’t disappoint. Normal things like keys and coins won’t do any damage. The Iris scanner and front camera are covered by Gorilla Glass, too, so there’s little chance of accidental damage to those parts of the phone.

The main camera on the back is covered by a strong piece of glass that won’t scratch or break easily. The fingerprint scanner next to the camera scratches with a razor, but after more tests, it still works.

JerryRigEverything also tested out the 5.8-inch OLED display with a lighter. It took 30 seconds before the pixels started to go white, but then they reverted back to their normal coloring. He tried this three times before he got some pixels to get discolored. Not sure how applicable this is, but you can rest easy if fire comes into contact with your Galaxy S8.

Scratching the metal frame reveals it really is made of metal. During the bend test, there was hardly any discernible give by the S8’s sturdy frame and none of the waterproofing adhesive was altered.

Final verdict: This is one durable phone

Not only is the Galaxy S8 beautiful, but it’s insanely durable. The only worry customers should be on the look out for is cracking the glass panels, but that goes the same for any phone with glass.

Even though these high-end devices look fragile, they’re anything but. See for yourself in the video down below.
