Verizon is pushing out an update that will let the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus take advantage of its powerful Gigabit LTE network, making the devices a whole lot faster. In a security update being rolled out soon, one of the added features is support for the faster speeds.
The Verizon Gigabit LTE network hasn’t launched yet, but once it does, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will be able to take advantage. Verizon has been busy building up infrastructure for its next-gen networks. Gigabit LTE networks will be the first stepping stone to reach 5G, which will deliver speeds eclipsing 1Gbps. Unfortunately, that’s still a few years away.
Once the network rolls out, devices will see speeds that are three to four times faster than normal speeds, according to Verizon. That should come out to about 300 to 400Mbps, and upload speeds will be about 150Mbps.
The update should arrive to Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices any day now. They will join the Moto Z2 as the first devices ready to take advantage of Verizon’s Gigabit LTE network.
