Will Samsung rush the Galaxy S5 to market in time for January 2014? A new report from South Korean News Paper JoseIlbo claims the new handset may make an appearance in an effort to counter slowing Galaxy S4 sales.

Considering that the S4 hit stores last April and the Galaxy Note 3 was announced just last month, we have trouble believing Samsung will push out another flagship device so quickly. Previous reports suggest production on the rumored device won't even begin until the end of 2013,  and before then we're expecting a few spinoff variants of the Note 3. We're not saying it's impossible that Samsung will speed up its product cycle next year, but we'd take this report with a grain of salt.

Naver claims the Galaxy S5 will come equipped with a 16-megapixel camera offering optical image stabilization and an in-house Exynos processor instead of a Qualcomm CPU. Another report earlier this week suggested the upcoming flagship handset will be water and dust-resistant, similar to the Galaxy S4 Active. A bigger screen and battery are both likely upgrades as well, though it's still too early to know anything for sure.
