As expected, Samsung recently added the iPhone 5 to its list of Apple devices that it says infringe its patents. Back in mid-September, Samsung said that it anticipated it was going to file a "motion to amend its infringement contentions to add the iPhone 5 as an accused product."

Samsung said it has "little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights," according to a statement obtained by Reuters. The company has also argued that Apple's legal measures will ultimately limit market competition. That's true, especially if Apple manages to win injunctions against Samsung's products, but isn't Samsung doing the exact same thing?

A jury recently decided that Samsung willfully infringed on Apple's patents and that it owes more than $1 billion in damages.
