Samsung Galaxy S III Mockup

After Samsung began sending out invites to a March 22 press event in France yesterday, a lot of us got excited in anticipation for a Galaxy S III unveiling. However, those dreams have now been shattered by the Korean company, which promises there will be no new hardware at the event.

When invites went out for the March 22 event, Samsung provided very little information on what press attending could expect. Its secrecy led us to believe that something special may be on the cards, but as it turns out, Samsung will only be talking about its existing portfolio. The company confirmed this in a statement issued to The Next Web.

So when will the device finally show its face? Well, the latest rumors from South Korea suggest it will arrive in May, with a super-slim 7mm form factor. That’s 1.5mm thinner than the already delectable Galaxy S II. But despite its tiny frame, the device is still expected to pack a quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a Super AMOLED display.

Are you disappointed that the Galaxy S III will not be announced on March 22?
