Samsung has been working its pre-CES buzz, and now the South Korean company has unleashed yet another goodie for the masses. Actually, there are two: Meet the Chronos and the Ultra, the new pair of Series 7 laptops. Both are Windows 8-based machines with JBL speakers and HD screens of 1,920×1,080.
The Chronos (top) is a 15.6-inch, multi-touch laptop that features a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon HD 8870M GPU, a choice of either 4 or 8GB RAM (expandable up to 16GB), and 1TB storage. The whole shebang, including a beefy battery (for up to 11 hours), will weigh in at about 5.6 pounds.
Too heavy? Then maybe you’ll dig the Ultra (bottom) instead. A leaner, lighter 13.3-inch ultrabook, at 3.2 pounds, this model has an Intel Core i7/i5 processer, 16GB RAM (max), an SSD (up to 256GB), 8 hours of battery life, six-second boot-up and optional 4G/LTE.
Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but the rest of the Series 7 product line — with notebooks from 14 to 17 inches — ranges from $999 to $1,499, not including the Series 7 Gamer ($1,899).
Samsung has already tipped a number of things, including a Smart Tango Corner Clean robotic vacuum, a Smart Hub rework, a Smart Evolution Kit add-on for TVs, and some hints about an all-new TV design heading our way. Of course, these and the Series 7 additions are just appetizers before the show’s entree. The company has no less than two events scheduled — a press conference on Monday, January 7th, and its “Mobilizing Possibility” keynote on Wednesday, January 9th, when Bill Clinton is expected to speak. Hard to imagine a former U.S. president possibly debuting the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 or a presentation on flexible displays. But that would certainly make for one heck of showstopper.
Stay tuned to TechnoBuffalo, and we’ll bring you the goods on what’s up Samsung’s sleeves at the show.
