Lets take a look at the chart for this month and see how it stacks up against the previous. All measurements are according to NetMarketshare.

Safari logoGoogle Chrome continued its growth this month, although it turned in its smallest gain in some time. While it has been growing by a half percent or more per month this year, in July it slowed its pace to .34%. It is still very much on track to be at 15% or more by the end of this year. Interestingly, our own Killian Bell pointed out just yesterday that Chrome is now the second most used browser in the U.K., beating out Firefox. A sample of what is to come globally?

Internet Explorer fell .87% this month, picking up speed again on its downward spiral towards the all important 50% mark. It still has miles to go before it falls from the number one spot, but it is fairly clear the love affair with IE is at an end.

Falling .19% in July, Firefox had its second worst fall of the year. It’s still solidly in second place, but the combination of it falling while Chrome is rising feels like those old math problems about two trains leaving at the same time from different stations.

Opera fell another .08% this month, landing at 1.65%, the lowest share since I started keeping track in early 2010. Not sure what’s making it fall so rapidly lately, but it isn’t good.

As for the dark horse I spoke of earlier, Apple’s Safari growth continued in July with a .57% gain. While not its biggest gain of the year, it’s still extremely healthy and pushes it past the 8% mark. Could we be look at 10% by the end of the year?
