Kevin Rose, one of the co-founders of social news site Digg, has a track record of being one of the first to break Apple rumors.  It has usually been about iPods, but there’s no reason that he wouldn’t occasionally get some leads on the next generation of the iPad.

Rumors of the iPad 2 have been flying around for weeks now ever since some mysterious cases showed up online, and there have been sightings of parts and cases here in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show.  These new rumors from Mr. Rose are some of the most solid yet, however.

I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

If you’re thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now.

An update was later posted that the display isn’t a retina display, which actually would make no sense, but is instead just sporting a higher DPI.

The Feb. 1 announcement date would also put this in the middle of the upcoming employee vacation blackout we’ve been hearing about.  If they announce and release, and the Verizon iPhone hits soon, Mr. Jobs and company could get double duty out of the employees being prevented from taking vacations.

What say you?  Will we see he iPad 2 within the next couple weeks?
