Update (2:00pm EST): The cancellation of these shows has been made official. The confirmation comes from TV Guide.
Here's G4 Media General Manager Adam Stotsky with a quotable from the confirmation:
"Attack of the Show and X-Play have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture…With more than 3,000 episodes aired between them, we have more than enough great material to honor these innovators and their amazing contributions as we bring both shows to a close."
Both Attack of the Show and X-Play will be produced until the end of 2012. Once December closes, both shows will be done. In 2013, G4 is set to re-brand into some sort of new "for men" network.
Original Story: Rumor has it today that G4, the cable network once dedicated to nothing but fun gaming video content and coverage, is cancelling all of their video game shows. X-Play and Attack of the Show are, either from today forward or by the end of the year, done with.
The rumor comes from Kotaku as they have "a source close to the situation" who indicates that the cancellations are actually happening. There have been several rumblings on networks like Twitter from hosts, media and industry folk connected to the channel. Take, for instance, the word from Attack of the Show host Candace Bailey today:
I'm so fortunate to work with the people I work with everyday.

There have been rumors circulating throughout the year that G4TV was going the way of the dodo bird. Comcast, the company behind the network, is supposedly re-branding it to something more along the lines of GQ.
If any of this is further substantiated today, we'll update this post. For now, consider the cancellation of G4's gaming shows a complete rumor.
