Monkey Island

Ron Gilbert wants the chance to make another Monkey Island game. He's not sure when he'll do it, but he wants the option to do it. What does he need for that? The IP.

Disney acquired the Monkey Island IP when it bought all things Lucas a while back. Gilbert wants to turn the game series into a trilogy, as he writes on his blog.

Here's the bit that's connected to this story.

I don't know if I will ever get to make another Monkey Island. I always envisioned the game as a trilogy and I really hope I do, but I don't know if it will ever happen. Monkey Island is now owned by Disney and they haven't shown any desire to sell me the IP. I don't know if I could make Monkey Island 3a without complete control over what I was making and the only way to do that is to own it. Disney: Call me.

Maybe someday. Please don't suggest I do a Kickstarter to get the money, that's not possible without Disney first agreeing to sell it and they haven't done that.

I don't think Disney really cares about the Monkey Island IP. In fact, I bet there's a chance the execs purchasing all the Lucas stuff didn't really know what that was when it appeared on the inventory of products at the time of sale.

Just sell it to Gilbert, folks. It's an unused IP until you do that.
